About Us

Our Mission

We serve the soil to empower sustainable agriculture that meets the nutritional needs of society.

At Bontera we care deeply about helping growers produce the crops needed to feed the world’s increasing population, as well as safeguarding our precious natural resources. These two strands are woven together in our commitment to developing safe, effective solutions for sustainable agriculture.

Real Solutions Require Solid R&D

Our R&D team is always exploring sustainable technologies to improve crop health and yields, while protecting the soil and water growers depend on.

We work closely with growers and distributors around the world to understand their needs, and how we can best meet them with sustainable solutions.

Bontera

“The soil once teemed with microbes that supported crop and soil health. But long-term chemical-based agriculture has degraded these vital microbes – along with our food, water, and soil. Bontera focuses on providing alternatives that restore and protect the very resources growers depend on.”

– Dr. Syed H. Imam, PhD, Vice President of R&D, Bontera

Our story

In 2013, Bontera embarked on a journey driven by a commitment to address critical environmental and agricultural challenges. The seeds of our endeavour were sown in 2012 when we identified a pressing need for bioremediation products in South Africa. These products were instrumental in alleviating the strain on overloaded sewer systems, marking our initial entry into the realm of microbial technologies.

Our exploration of microbial technologies soon expanded our horizons, ultimately leading us to a pivotal moment in 2014. This was when we established Bontera BioAg and assembled our dedicated R&D team. Our mission was to develop innovative products that could reintroduce an abundance of beneficial microbes into the soil, rekindling its natural vitality while countering the depletion caused by harsh chemicals.

As we ventured further, we witnessed a growing global appetite for microbial solutions and sustainable soil practices. Engaging with stakeholders reinforced our commitment to safeguarding our planet's health.

We understood that contemporary agricultural practices were placing undue stress on the environment.

This realisation fueled our passion for a more sustainable future. Guided by our dedication to microbial technologies and driven by our commitment to environmental stewardship, we embarked on a mission to effect positive change.
